Enoch Lion, who recently turned 18, can be a very affectionate fellow and is eager to visit with human friends—but is not always so eager to leave a comfortable perch to get there.
So we’ve made some home renovations to better suit Enoch’s abilities. Over the course of three days, more than a dozen volunteers, along with staff and contractors, donated over 100 hours to the project. The final result is nothing short of exceptional—Enoch’s new habitat now stands as a testament to our love for this sweet old lion.
Project Highlights:
Tiered decking along the high-traffic areas at the front and back of Enoch’s space has improved his comfort and accessibility, allowing him to interact more easily with visitors and tour groups, socialize with his lion neighbors, and—of course—keep an eye on the neighborhood.
Hammocks were rewoven to provide better support for Enoch’s aging bones and make them easier for him to get in and out of. New steps were also added to enhance his comfort and convenience.
A large shade structure and high platform provide much-needed quality shade for Enoch in his prime.
A HGTV-worthy Den remodel to ensure he stays warm and cozy this coming winter.
Pressure washing and general clean-up was a much-needed refresh after a very wet summer.
Sod and a terrace were added to prevent further erosion, with fill dirt and topsoil to create a soft, grassy surface that will be easier on Enoch’s paws.
Regrading and drainage work addressed low points, and rock was added to prevent future erosion.
Enoch’s habitat is now a much more comfortable and engaging space for him to enjoy his golden years. The cost of his home makeover? Around $12,500—made possible by the wonderful generosity of donors. It’s a benefit for Enoch, the Park, and all of our visitors who will have a chance to see how well he’s doing in his updated space.
