Facilities Lead

The Facilities Lead is responsible for overseeing the general upkeep, maintenance, and repair of the park’s facilities, ensuring both functional and aesthetic standards are met. In addition to daily duties, the Facilities Lead plays a critical role in the construction and development of new projects while maintaining a safe and compliant work environment. This role requires collaboration across departments to ensure seamless support for park operations. The Facilities Lead also manages volunteers, oversees safety protocols, and operates equipment as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Oversee and execute construction and maintenance projects while ensuring safety and compliance standards are met
  • Operate equipment inclusing power tools, mowers, trimmers, and shop tools using safety equipment
  • Perform facility maintenance and upgrades including fencing, law maintenance support, carpentry, basic plumbing and electrical work, drainage repairs, painting an staining, minor mechanical repairs, working on ladders and scaffolding, building , assembling or repairing structures
  • Serve as primary point of contact for food procurement, assisting with meat runs, and ensuring the park has the necessary food supplies for the animals
  • Drive a truck pulling a 16′ trailer to transport heavy products
  • Short bursts of heavy lifting using a dolly
  • Basic use/maintenance of equipment such as golf carts, gator and all-terrain vehicles
  • Strong organizational skills and follow-through
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules and records including service, fuel, and equipment logs
  • Order and pick up supplies
  • Maintain and support cleanliness and organization of the facility’s workshop, storage depot, and associated areas
  • Assist in setup, operation, and breakdown of the Animal Park’s special events
  • Assist with animal care as needed, including performing repairs on the fly, assisting with animal and equipment transport during procedures, and occasional butchering of meat (training provided)
  • Participate in emergency response team training as appropriate
  • Attend staff meetings as assigned
  • Collaborate with managers and staff on cross-departmental needs and projects
  • Provide direct oversight of construction volunteers, ensuring adherence to safety and protocols
  • Train relevant keeper staff on construction department protocols and project structure.
  • Ensure daily construction support is available during the morning keeper routine to promptly address any urgent or emergency issues.
  • Collaborate with and facilitating outside contractors as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Two years of experience working in facilities maintenance or comparable experience
  • Experience driving a truck pulling a trailer
  • Knowledge of basic computer and phone app operations
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, twist, bend and stoop, and stand or walk for an extended period
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Flexibility to change tasks quickly as needed
  • Use of hand tools, and operation of simple power tools required
  • Basic skills in carpentry, basic plumbing and simple electrical work preferred
  • Experience with tractor operation and motor vehicle maintenance preferred
  • Enthusiasm for learning and speaking about the Animal Park’s message

LICENSING, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR REGISTRATION
  • First Aid/CPR, or completed within six months of hire; offered on site
  • Valid Driver’s License and two years’ driving experience
  • COVID-19 vaccination required; booster vaccines may be required

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Requires working most weekends and many holidays 
  • Requires limited accessibility on days off to correct scheduling conflicts or availability for emergencies
  • Adaptability to handle changing schedules and filling in as needed on occasion, including providing staffing assistance for any significant contingencies
  • Requires prolonged standing or sitting, significant walking, and bending, stooping, and stretching
  • Rural location requires reliable transportation and the ability to drive in the dark
  • Requires working outdoors in most weather conditions, including in temperatures from 0℉ to 105℉
  • Requires handling predictable and controllable hazards associated with animals, workshops, and landscaping, including exposure to dust and allergens, medications, and chemicals used for husbandry, and cleanliness, vehicle maintenance, pest and weed control, and more
COMPENSATION

The pay for this position is commensurate with experience. Subsidized shared housing opportunities may be available during relocation.
