The Animal Park at the Conservators Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies heavily on a dedicated staff of employees and permanent volunteers. The Animal Park does not often have open positions for employment, but will post these positions as they become available here. Current Open Positions

The Education Programs Associate will assist in designing, developing, implementing, promoting, and evaluating K-12 education programs and activities at the Animal Park at the Conservators Center.

Responsibilities Include assisting in establishing and maintaining educational program for the Park, including, but not limited to:
  • K – 12th grade class field trips to the Park
  • Evaluate, review and revise education programs to maintain alignment with current state education standards
  • Assist with education opportunities at the Park
  • Assist with pre-planning and development of summer camps
  • Attending Park events as required
  • Performing related duties and responsibilities as required
  • Building and maintaining relationships with other institutions as required

    Knowledge and Experience:
  • Experience with education program development and management
  • Experience teaching children in a classroom, camp or professional informal learning setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of general science concepts, especially concepts directly related to the Park’s primary mission
  • Able to research, understand and interpret science concepts in an engaging fashion
  • Experience supervising adults and youth while maintaining a positive environment
  • Education Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in education, biology or environmental science preferred

    Skills and Other Characteristics:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills · Strong Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and database skills · Excellent organization skills · Comfortable speaking to large groups and diverse audiences · Must have a passion for the environment and teaching youth · Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work well with others in a team setting · Self-motivated · Flexible and able to handle unexpected situations

    Working Conditions:
  • Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing or sitting for extended periods: moderate lifting such as setting up chairs for a lecture; and operating motorized vehicles. The position requires the need to lift exhibit items weighing up to 40 pounds. This position will involve working both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • The working hours will vary depending on need and will require weekend and evening work.
  • Licenses and Certification: Possession of a valid driver’s license.

    Under the direction of the Visitor Services Supervisor, the Visitor Services Associates are the first contact point for visitors and future donors of the Animal Park and are therefore critical representatives of the Animal Park to the public. We are accepting full and part-time applications.
    Please Note: Availability on at least 2 days from Friday-Sunday is required. All employees are required to go through a 90 day probationary period.

    KEY DUTIES INCLUDE:
  • Greeting visitors and donors checking in before tours and/or visits
  • Managing tour-related phone lines and emails
  • Ensuring prospective donors are introduced to appropriate personnel
  • Handling gift shop and tour sales
  • Receiving and sorting mail and deliveries
  • Maintaining a clean and professional gift shop, Visitors’ Services building, and public areas of the animal park
  • Preparing appropriate materials for tours and/or donor visits (this will include raw meat treats for the animals)
  • Preparing the Visitors’ Services building and surrounding public areas for tour participants
  • Overseeing interns and volunteers assisting with day-to-day tasks
  • Driving golf carts for visitors requesting mobility assistance
  • Assisting as needed in public-facing roles during events
  • Representing the Animal Park at offsite tabling events or programs
  • Assisting with the maintenance and ordering of building and merchandise supplies
  • Working cohesively with the other members of the Animal Park staff and community, including supervisors and support staff
  • Maintaining a professional and positive attitude in all interactions with the public, the staff, and the community
  • Creating and maintaining displays and information available in public areas of the facility
  • Ensuring positive, welcoming experiences for all visitors to the Animal Park

    MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to work weekends and/or holidays
  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Strong interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills
  • Basic skills with Microsoft Office and Excel software applications
  • Writing and penmanship skills
  • Ability to maintain a neat and organized work environment
  • Licensed to operate a motor vehicle in North Carolina
  • Ability to self-motivate and work in self-directed projects and tasks
  • Ability to work actively (on your feet) as necessary
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.

    PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience and skill with online platforms such as Google Drive
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting
  • Familiarity with the Animal Park
  • Prior job experience working in a sales and/or retail environment
  • Prior job experience working in an administrative position
  • Experience working with domestic or exotic animals

    COMPENSATION
  • Starting hourly wage: Entry-level (TBD)
